The Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes played extra hockey last night, with the Pens earning a point but falling victim to their season-long struggles in the shootout.
Paul Steigerwald has the story.
The Penguins played without Sidney Crosby, who continues his recovery from a suspected right knee injury, and without Justin Brazeau, who is headed to the injured reserve and is termed “week to week” with an undisclosed injury. Defenseman Sam Girard also sat out with an undisclosed injury, and forward Evgeni Malkin served the third game of his five-game league suspension.
With the loss, the Penguins set a franchise record for losses beyond regulation in a single season, with 15.
