It was another brutal night for the Penguins at PPG Paints Arena, as they were blown out for the second straight game on home ice, and with the loss, they fell out of second place in the Metro Division.
Paul Steigerwald has the story.
Coach Dan Muse says Avalanche goaltender Scott Wedgewood was tough in the net, making 30 saves on the night.
Muse says the Penguins’ effort was there, but they have to play better hockey in the stretch run of the season.
The Pens played without Evgeni Malkin, who appeared to take a shot off his hand in Sunday’s loss to Carolina and is listed as day-to-day. Ville Koivunen took his place in the lineup after being an emergency recall from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton earlier in the day. Defenseman Ryan Shea returned to the lineup wearing a face guard after being injured Saturday against Winnipeg.
The Pens are in Ottawa tomorrow night.
