BASEBALL
West Shamokin swept a doubleheader from Penns Manor yesterday, 14-4 and 15-1. The Comets took a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the first game, but the Wolves rebounded with four in the third and seven in the fourth. Nick Krizmanich had three hits and Ben McConnell and Richie Walters each had two for West Shamokin while Tyler Cooper had two hits for PM. In the second game, the Wolves scored four in the first, one in the second, and then four in the third and six in the fourth to put it away, 15-1. Tanner Cook had three hits and three RBIs, while McConnell had a double and a triple and drove in three runs, and Luke McCullough had a double and single and drove in two.
Homer-Center batters had only three hits, but they drew fifteen walks in a 10-0 shutout of Purchase Line. Nash Budner threw six three-hit innings for the Wildcats, striking out six and walking just one. Dom Shimko doubled and walked twice, and he drove in three runs.
United put up seven runs over the fourth and fifth innings to beat Portage, 8-3. Connor Darr had two hits for the Lions and Ryan Felix and Cameron Darr each drove in two runs. Tyson Burkett and Owen Slanoc each had two hits for the Mustangs.
Undefeated Conemaugh Township rocked Cambria Heights, 13-5. Greyson Studer led the way with three hits and three RBIs, and Devin Lohr, Kaden Valentine, and Brennan Lohr all had two hits for the Indians.
SOFTBALL
Purchase Line topped Homer-Center 13-9. Each team had thirteen hits, with the Red Dragons’ Alorra Phillips and Leah Nelson each collecting three and Phillips driving in three runs. Kaitlynn Houser and Lillian Stauffer both had had two hits and four RBIs for PL as well. For Homer-Center, Khylee Beer had three hits, including a double, triple, and home run, and she drove in five runs. Bry Haer, Taicha Bartlebaugh, Isabelle Rowland, and Brooklyn Visnecky all had two hits.
United’s Ella Worthington had two hits and struck out thirteen batters in a 3-1 Lions’ win over Portage. Reese Pinizzotto had two hits for the Mustangs. United drew seven walks and stole five bases in the game.
Leah Mondi twirled a no-hitter, striking out twelve and walking two, as unbeaten West Shamokin shut out Penns Manor, 6-0. Abbi Kimmel, Cameron Vandervort, and Elena Gourley all had two hits for the Wolves.
Cambria Heights blistered Conemaugh Township 17-3. Alyssa Miller and Margaret Elias each had two hits for Heights, which drew fourteen walks from CT’s pitchers.
