What a day for the Pirates, who lost shortstop Konnor Griffin until September at the earliest, and then went out and beat the Braves on an all-time night by first baseman Ryan O’Hearn.
Greg Brown has the story of a big Bucco win.
Want to hear what three home runs sound like? Here’s Greg Brown calling all three of Ryan O’Hearn’s shots:
O’Hearn’s third home run was the 100th of his career. He says hitting three home runs wasn’t something he saw coming.
O’Hearn was stunned by the concept of ten runs driven in in one game.
The National League yesterday named Braxton Ashcraft as a replacement pitcher for the All-Star game in Philadelphia next week. Paul Skenes is scheduled to pitch against the Brewers on Sunday for the Pirates and won’t be ready to throw again by Tuesday. The Brewers are scheduled to start their star, Jacob Misiorowski, against Skenes. Officially, Ashcraft replaces Misiorowski and the Cardinals’ Riley O’Brien replaces Skenes.
The Pirates also have welcomed back Joshua Palacios to the organization, signing the outfielder to a minor league deal and assigning him to Indianapolis.
