Another week of summer fun and then it’s back to school for students across Indiana County. Purchase Line will lead the county’s school districts into a new academic year with the start of classes on August 24th. The buses get rolling for River Valley the following day, the 25th; and then on Thursday the 27th, Homer-Center, Indiana Area, Marion Center, and Penns Manor begin, with United being the last of the county’s districts to start classes, on August 31st.
Believe it or not, the high school golf season got underway Friday, while other sports teams and marching bands continue their training camps. After a week of heat acclimation, full practice for football teams begins tomorrow, with players who have not yet completed five full days of heat acclimation held out until they fulfill that requirement.
Marion Center’s school board meets tomorrow night, with an agenda packed with items to prepare for the new school year, including a number of personnel decisions.
Also on the agenda is a motion to approve the contract for the renovation of Dr. John R. Mallino Stadium, which will include the conversion of the field to artificial turf and the resurfacing of the track, with the addition of an eighth lane. The project will also include bleacher enhancements. If approved, the work will be done by Force Turf Solutions.
Homer-Center’s Buildings & Grounds Committee and the full school board will both meet on Thursday.
