The Pirates are 23-13 against American League opponents this year and have won nine of their twelve series. They will have three more interleague series this season, all next month, against the Angels, White Sox, and Tigers.

Catcher Henry Davis was struck on the wrist by a pitch yesterday and was removed from the game. X-rays were negative, but the Pirates still made a trade with the Yankees to acquire veteran catcher Christian Bethancourt for cash considerations. The 34-year-old has played for six Major League teams, last appearing in MLB in 2024 with the Cubs. He spent some time with the Pirates’ Indianapolis farm team in 2021. This year, he’s hit a combined .270 with fourteen homers for the Cubs’ and Yankees’ Triple-A teams. The Pirates assigned him to Indy but he’s expected to join the Bucs’ taxi squad this weekend.
The Pirates are off today and start a ten-day, nine-game road trip tomorrow with the first of three games in LA against the Dodgers. They’ll move on from there to visit San Diego and St. Louis next week.
