State police have announced they will continue to conduct safety checks as part of their efforts to prioritize school and school bus safety in the state.
The domestic security checks will be conducted across the Troop A region, which includes Indiana, Westmoreland, Somerset and Cambria Counties. These checks may involve walk-throughs of the schools and troopers eating lunch with students.
Troopers will also monitor roadways as buses pick up and drop off students in the mornings and afternoons. They will specifically monitor for violations of rules that prohibit meeting or overtaking a school bus in the process of picking up children. Anyone convicted is subject to a $250 fine.
