The Pirates are back home at PNC Park to start a series with the Giants tonight. Joe Block previews the pitching matchup.
Skenes has only ever pitched against the Giants once, in May of 2024, when he went six innings and gave up a run, with seven strikeouts in a 7-6 loss.
Logan Webb is 2-1 with a 2.37 ERA in five career appearances against the Pirates. His last outing against the Bucs was last year, when he threw six innings and gave up one run, striking out ten in an 8-1 Giants win at PNC Park.
The Pirates have decided to give Jared Jones an extra day of rest, pushing his next start back to Friday against the Angels rather than Thursday against the Giants. With MLB rosters expanding today, the Bucs can choose to add an Indianapolis starter such as Khristian Curtis, or go with a bullpen game on Thursday. Roster expansion allows teams to add one pitcher and one position player for the rest of the season.
Konnor Griffin will be wearing an Indianapolis uniform for his next rehab start tonight in Toledo. Griffin played Sunday for Altoona, then returned to Pittsburgh to be checked out before being shipped out to the Triple-A Indians. He played the first five games of the season at Indy, reaching base safely at least twice in each game and batting .436 with three doubles and an RBI.
