In Baseball, the Pirates started their weekend series with the Kansas City Royals with an 8-5 win.
After the Royals went ahead 4-2 after 3 and a half innings, the Pirates responded with a two-run fourth, one in the fifth and three in the seventh while shutting the Royals out the rest of the way. Brandon Lowe hit his 32nd homer, a two-run shot, in the bottom of the 3rd. Konnor Griffin had 2 RBI on the night and was 4-5 at the plate. The Pirates and Royals play again tonight starting at 6:15 on WCCS.
However with the win, the Pirates did get some sour news. The Padres beat the Marlins last night, and that mathematically eliminates the Pirates from the Wild Card Race with just over a week to go in the season.
