The Pirates drop the first of their three-game series to the Detroit Tigers 8-7.
Detroit took the lead in the game after each team scored two runs in the second by posting a four-run third inning. The Pirates rallied with five runs in the eighth inning but could not tie the game in the 9th. Rafael Flores Jr. had three RBI, Ryan O’Hearn had two. Bubba Chandler took the loss, chased off after two and two-thirds innings after allowing six runs on four hits and four walks, notching only two strikeouts.
The Pirates will go to a bullpen game today against the Tigers, with Kirby Yates in the opener role. The Tigers will send Justin Verlander to the mound. We will not have the game on our air due to Pitt football.
