Indiana Regional Medical Center’s Orthopedic Surgery team has reached a milestone, completing 1,000 robotic-assisted joint replacement surgeries.
The MAKO robotic system is used for certain total and partial knee replacements, as well as total hip replacements. It helps surgeons create personalized surgical plans and perform procedures with robotic assistance.
The milestone comes during a year of continued advances in orthopedic care. Earlier this year, the team also performed its first “gold” knee replacement, using a titanium-coated implant for a patient with a nickel allergy.
Hospital officials say the technology gives patients more options for personalized joint replacement care close to home.
