After two shootout games over the weekend, a loss to Columbus and a win over Dallas, the Penguins took the day off yesterday. They will be on the ice in Chicago tomorrow night to face off against the Blackhawks. It’s a four-game road trip for the Pens, with games Friday in Colorado, Saturday in Vegas, and next Monday in Utah.
The Penguins will be back to work today hoping to get a jump start for Sidney Crosby, who is stuck in a career-high slump of no goals in six games at the start of a season. Linemate Rickard Rakell is also scoreless through six games. However, both Crosby and Rakell did score in the shootout on Saturday.
Before the game Saturday against Dallas, the Penguins announced that defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk is day-to-day with a lower-body injury suffered Friday against Columbus. Also, forward Ilya Solovyov cleared waivers and was sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to get some game action. He has been a healthy scratch for the Pens’ first six games of the season.

Big news from New York, where Rangers’ star goaltender Igor Shesterkin is out for the season with a leg injury. His backup, Joonas Korpisalo, is also injured. Rookie Dylan Garland was in net last night and won, and they are shopping for goaltenders, with one possibility being Matt Murray, the former Penguin who is now a free agent and could reunite with ex-Pens coach Mike Sullivan.
