With their 34-22 win yesterday, the Steelers played their most complete game of the season yesterday and improved their home record to an incredible 18-2 all-time against the Colts.
Coach Mike McCarthy said it was the Steelers’ best effort this year.
Jaylen Warren rushed for 101 yards and piled up 188 yards from scrimmage, scoring on an 80-yard catch-and-run and a 50-yard burst up the middle on a handoff.
McCarthy says Jaylen Warren is “the man” for the Steelers’ offense.
Aaron Rodgers says Jaylen Warren is a star.
Pat Freiermuth caught two touchdown passes, and Aaron Rodgers tied Terry Bradshaw and Ben Roethlisberger’s franchise record by throwing three touchdown passes in three straight games.
Rodgers completed his first eleven throws and finished the day 22-of-31 passing for 235 yards and threw no interceptions. He got his 166th win as an NFL starter, passing Big Ben for fifth place all-time, he tied Roethlisberger’s NFL record for most touchdown passes of 80 yards or more with nine, and he passed Peyton Manning for the third most touchdown passes in NFL history, postseason included, with 580. Tom Brady is first all-time with 737, and Drew Brees is second, with 608.
Rodgers says the offense had its best game.
The Steelers’ defense held Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor to 45 yards rushing and stopped the Colts on third downs eleven times in fifteen tries. Cam Heyward had the only sack for the Steelers. Heyward says he and his defensive teammates knew they needed to stop Colts star Jonathan Taylor.
Heyward says the Steelers have the leadership to rebound from tough losses, like last week’s defeat in Cleveland.
The Ravens rallied to beat the Falcons, 30-23 in overtime last night to take sole possession of first place in the AFC North at 4-1. The Bengals beat the Dolphins 31-24 while the Browns were upset by the Jets, 17-12. The Steelers, Bengals, and Browns are all 3-2, a game behind Baltimore in the division.
INJURIES
Already playing without Michael Pittman Jr. who was placed on injured reserve on Saturday, the Steelers’ wide receiver room saw two more men go down on Sunday. Roman Wilson left the game with a dislocated finger and Ben Skowronek pulled up with a calf injury. They also played without cornerback Jamel Dean, with an ankle injury and safety DeShon Elliott, who has not played yet this season with a knee injury, but could return on Sunday against the Buccaneers.
WHAT’S NEXT
The Steelers play at Tampa Bay on Sunday before taking off for Paris to play the Saints in two weeks.
