With Veterans Day coming next week, several events this weekend will be held to pay tribute to those who served our armed forces.
Starting today at the Indiana Mall is the Voices of Valor tribute which will pay tribute to veterans through high-definition visual displays and historical panels. Among those is a recreation of the Vietnam veteran’s memorial and a listing of the names of those who died during the Global War on Terror and 9/11. Wayne Bertrand with the Voice of Valor tribute wall talks about the impact this display has had on communities it has stopped in.
The display is expected to arrive this morning, as it will be escorted down Route 119 to Wayne Avenue, then Rose Street, then on to Oakland Avenue and the Mall. It will be set up in the hallway between Rural King and the Tuxedo Cinemas movie theater and will be open from 2:00 PM today until 2:00 PM on Sunday.
Also today is the annual Indiana County Veterans Expo at the KCAC. The event will connect veterans and their families with healthcare, employment assistance, community organizations, VA benefits and other items they need. Lunch will be served each day from 11:30 to 1:00 and there will be supplies distributed to veterans starting at 1:30 each day. Proof of veteran status is required. The event’s goal is to let those who served that support is available here in the community. The expo runs from 10-6 today.
