The NHL held its draft lottery last night and the Penguins will get the eleventh overall selection. And they have a chance to also get the twelfth selection, thanks to the trade of Drew O’Connor and Marcus Pattersson to Vancouver in a package that also includes a conditional New York Rangers top draft choice. The Rangers have the choice of keeping the pick and giving the Penguins their top pick next year, or letting the Penguins have the pick this year. They don’t have to decide until June 25th, two days before the draft.
The Islanders, Sharks, and Blackhawks have the top three choices in this year’s NHL Draft.
Marc-Andre Fleury is retiring from the NHL after Minnesota’s elimination last week from the
Stanley Cup playoffs, but “The Flower” is giving hockey one last try. The former Penguin will reunite with Sidney Crosby for Team Canada at the IIHF World Championship. Team Canada plays Slovenia on Saturday in Stockholm, Sweden.
