Idlewild Park opened yesterday for its 148th season, with a number of improvements and new features. Among the changes this year are updates to the iconic Rollo Coaster, with extensive off-season work on the track, including new lumber and concrete, and with new railings, decking, and handicapped-accessible ramps. The park will also get a new steel roller coaster this year, opening next month. There are also upgrades for another popular ride, the Wild Mouse, and another signature ride, the carousel, has been freshened.
The Idlewild experience also includes Story Book Forest and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. Soak Zone will open this coming Saturday.
After today, the park will be closed through Friday, then reopen for Memorial Day weekend, be closed May 27th through the 29th, then fully open every day through August 17th, after which a modified schedule will take effect as children head back to school.
