The Pirates fell behind and fought back last night, but didn’t quite get the key hit as they lost the first game of their four-game series in Chicago. Joe Block has the story.
It’s afternoon baseball today for the second game of the series. Joe Block previews the pitching matchup. Paul Skenes [4-6, 1.88 ERA] takes the mound for the Pirates against rookie Cade Horton [3-1, 4.11 ERA]. Airtime is 1:55, first pitch at 2:20 on WCCS.
Manager Donnie Kelly is looking forward to watching Skenes work against the Cubs, which he says is like watching two of his former Detroit Tigers teammates.
Catcher Joey Bart was 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs in a rehab start for Indianapolis. It was a doubleheader sweep for the Indians, 6-2 in that first game and 5-0 in the second. Bart was 0-for-3 as the DH in the second game.
And the Konnor Griffin watch continues, as the first-year sensation had two more hits, giving him two in all three games he’s played for High-A Greensboro, which beat Rome 4-0 in a two-hitter.
ALTOONA CURVE
Jack Branigan, Hudson Head, and Imanol Vargas all homered as Altoona blasted Erie, 10-6. Head had three hits. Branigan and Maikol Escotto each had two.
