The IUP women’s basketball team picked up some big honors. The PSAC has named Nyshae Weaver as Athlete of the Year. She has over 1000 career points and 1000 career rebounds. She also ranks third nationally in field goal percentage, shooting over 65% from the floor.
Weaver was also named to the All-PSAC first team, where she is joined by Teresa Maggio. The junior connected on 38 percent of her 3-point attempts and shot better than 81 percent from the free-throw line. She recorded 16 games with multiple 3-pointers.
Teammate Ellie Wilkerson was named all-PSAC second team She averaged 10.4 points per game with 10 double-figure performances and posted a season-high 23 points in IUP’s regular-season matchup against Millersville University.
Also, IUP Women’s Coach Craig Carey was named coach of the year by the conference. He lead the Crimson Hawks to a 24-3 overall record, including a 16-0 start to the season and a national ranking in every poll following the opening week, including multiple appearances inside the top five.
