BASEBALL
Marion Center scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, with Camden Rising’s single driving in Trent Slovinsky with the game-winning run as the Stingers overtook Homer-Center, 13-12. Ten of Marion Center’s runs were unearned as the Wildcats committed six errors. Troy Slovinsky had two hits for MC, including a homer. Rising had two hits and drove in three runs and Jaxon Davis had two hits and two RBI. For Homer-Center, Dom Shimko and Collin Dunn each had two hits.
West Shamokin battered Purchase Line, 13-3. Liam Scrips had two hits and drove in three runs for the Wolves and Antonio Buffone drove in three as well. Anthony Mountain had two of the Red Dragons’ nine hits.
Northern Cambria scored three in the sixth to take the lead over Portage, then held off a two-run Mustangs rally in the seventh for a 6-5 win. The Colts had only six hits, but took advantage of five Portage errors, which offset three of their own. Reese Wagner had two hits for NC.
Conemaugh Township topped United, 7-3. Colin Dinyar homered for the Indians and DJ Bambino and Gabe Valentine each had two hits. The Lions had only four hits, one of them a solo home run by Dmitri Worthington.
SOFTBALL
Marion Center broke a 3-3 tie with a six-run fourth inning, on the way to a 10-3 win over Homer-Center. Kaily Anderson singled, doubled, and homered, with two RBIs, and Natalie Black had two hits and drove in four runs for the Stingers. Ella Gaston also had two hits for MC. Homer-Center had only two hits, but both were home runs, by Bekah Marshall and Khylee Beer.
Tied at 1 in the top of the seventh inning, West Shamokin put up four runs to come away with a 5-1 win at Purchase Line. Cameron Vandervort had three hits and drove in three runs for the undefeated Wolves. Riley Mahaffey had two hits for PL and drove in a run.
United scored four runs in the first inning and ten over the fifth and sixth for a 16-0 win over Conemaugh Township. The Lions outhit the Indians, 12-2. Mya Lichtenfels was 3-for-3 with a single, triple, and home run for United and Rebecca Warrington had three hits and five RBIs. Ella Worthington and Kenedi Fiochetta each had two hits for the Lions and Bailey Pisarcik hit an inside-the-park home run. Worthington pitched six innings of one-hit ball, striking out 16.
What a slugfest for Portage and Northern Cambria, with the Mustangs prevailing, 20-19, stopping a Colts rally after six runs had scored in the top of the seventh. Portage wins despite committing ten errors. Reese Pinozotto had two hits, including a home run, and drove in five runs for Portage. Adasyn Trusik, Avery Smith, Chloe Trusik, Kiera McCarty and Mikaila McCoy all had two hits and the Trusiks and McCarty all drove in three runs.
