BASEBALL
Troy Slovinsky and Jaxon Davis each homered and had two hits and Camden Rising had three hits as Marion Center dropped Conemaugh Valley, 7-3, in a six-inning game.
In a five-inning game, Northern Cambria’s Zach Cavallo got all fifteen outs by strikeout as the Colts routed Penns Manor, 11-1. Even though they only had four hits, the Colts scored five runs in the first and third innings, sandwiched around a one-run second, as Penns Manor walked eight batters. Freshman Connur Solley had two of the Colts’ hits and drove in two runs.
Three Conemaugh Township pitchers combined on a two-hitter as the Indians shut out Purchase Line, 7-0. DJ Bambino had three hits, Colin Dinyar had two, and Bryce Conn homered for CT.
Portage broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth as they beat West Shamokin, 6-4. Mustangs freshman Lucas Shuniak had three hits, and Jordan Klein had two. For the Wolves, Carter Myers had two doubles and Antonio Buffone had two singles.
Homer-Center and United were suspended after four innings with the Lions leading, 5-3. A date hasn’t been determined for the resumption of the game.
SOFTBALL
Homer-Center had only four hits but one of them was Taicha Bartlebaugh’s two-run home run in the fifth inning that pushed the Wildcats to a 2-1 win over United. The Lions’ Ella Worthington had two hits. Bri Birchall and Bekah Marshall shared the pitching duties for HC, both striking out five. Worthington struck out nine and walked none for United.
Freshman Izzy McCabe had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs as Northern Cambria put up a 10-run second inning in an 11-1 win over River Valley. Ava Messina and Devany Hollingsworth each had two hits for NC and Alyssa Yahner spun a five-inning two-hitter, striking out six.
Conemaugh Valley held on to beat Marion Center, 6-5, in a rain-shortened game. For the Stingers, Natalie Black had two hits, including a home run, and she drove in four runs. Macie Miller, Madison Gaston, and Clare Lydic all had two hits.
West Shamokin jumped to an 8-0 lead and knocked off Portage, 9-4. Cameron Vandevort homered and singled twice and drove in five runs. Abbi Kimmel and Evie Grantz each had two hits for the Wolves. For the Mustangs, Avery Smith and Chloe Trusik both cracked two-run homers in the fourth inning. Next up for the undefeated Wolves is a showdown with unbeaten Conemaugh Valley on Thursday at West Shamokin.
