Brandon Lowe got the Pirates off on the right foot for the second straight game as the Bucs won in Arizona again yesterday.
Joe Block has the story.
Manager Donnie Kelly liked how Mitch Keller bulldogged his way through a start when he struggled to locate his pitches.
Lowe is only 5-9 and weighs about 180 pounds, yet he’s already hit ten homers for the Pirates after a 31-home run season for Tampa Bay last year. Kelly says Lowe generates big-time power.
Outfielder Jake Mangum was scheduled to start yesterday but Billy Cook replaced him after Mangum felt tightness in his left hamstring. The Pirates also yesterday placed reliever Chris Devenski on the 15-day injured list with an undisclosed illness and recalled pitcher Cam Sanders.
ALTOONA
Altoona gave up two runs in the bottom of the eighth and lost to Chesapeake, 4-3. Lonnie White had two doubles for the Curve and Jack Branigan had two hits. Reliever Jaden Woods walked all three batters he faced in the eighth, then the Curve made two straight miscues in the field to allow the Baysox to score the win.
Khristian Curtis pitches for the Curve tonight.
