The Pirates lost the first game of a three-game series to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-2. Bubba Chandler was a bright spot for the team, as he fanned 11 and threw 22 strikes over five innings of work and allowed three runs. The bullpen in the 8th inning was disastrous as Dennis Santana allowed the other three runs in one inning.
The Pirates scored first with a sac fly by Spencer Horowitz that brought Brandon Lowe home. The other run came in the top of the 8th as Bryan Reynolds hit an RBI groundout that scored Lowe.
The Pirates and Blue Jays will play again this afternoon, with Paul Skenes starting for the Pirates (6-3, 2.62 ERA, 63 k’s) while Patrick Corbin will pitch for the Blue Jays (1-1, 4.23 ERA, 25 k’s). Airtime is 2:40 with first pitch at 3:07 this afternoon on WCCS.
