The Pirates are back at PNC Park tonight for the start of a six-game homestand, following a 3-3 road trip to Sacramento and Denver.
Joe Block takes a look at the pitching matchup.
The Pirates are 39-39, nine games behind the Brewers in the National League Central. They are a game-and-a-half back in the National League Wild Card standings, with six other teams in front of them.
The Pirates have not yet updated the status of pitcher Jared Jones or center fielder Oneil Cruz, both of whom were scheduled to be examined in Pittsburgh yesterday. Jones was struck on his pitching elbow by a batted ball on Sunday, with initial tests showing no structural damage. Cruz has two broken fingers and has not yet resumed baseball activities.
The team has also not yet announced when shortstop Konnor Griffin will begin his rehab assignment as he recovers from a strained flexor tendon in his right forearm. General manager Ben Cherington said on Sunday that the rehab stint will likely begin this week.
