Most of Indiana County is now under an extreme heat warning for the rest of the week.
The upgraded advisory affects all of Indiana county except the higher elevations in the southeast corner of the county, and will remain in effect until 10:00 PM Friday night. The higher-elevation region is still under a heat advisory for the same time period. Dangerously hot conditions are expected along with a feels-like temperature going up to 110, with limited relief in the overnight hours.
People are advised to stay well hydrated, to stay in air-conditioned environments and out of the sun, and to check on neighbors and relatives. The National Weather Service also warns against leaving children or animals in unattended vehicles as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
