Adjustments are being made to the traffic signals on Philadelphia Street in Indiana as part of the program to make it safer for drivers and pedestrians.
The “No Turn on Red” signs at 4th and Philadelphia and at 5th and Philadelphia were uncovered yesterday, putting that rule into effect in both areas. Traffic signal modifications are also underway with the new signal patterns expected to be active on July 2nd. After activation, police will have additional pedestrian education and outreach during the week of July 6th to make sure everyone is aware of the new rules.
Under the new patterns, there will be a period of four-way-red lights on Phildalephia Street between 4th and 9th streets to allow pedestrians to cross in all directions. This makes sure no cars are in motion to allow pedestrians to walk safely.
Borough officials advise people to be patient with the traffic changes as there will be a period of adjustment. Residents are encouraged to stay alert, follow posted signals and signage, and allow additional time while becoming familiar with the new traffic patterns.
