It was another high-energy practice yesterday for the Steelers at St. Vincent, with coach Mike McCarthy sarcastically noting that they have to be fast-paced because of the practice-length rules agreed to in the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement with the players’ union.
McCarthy also highlighted the intensity of the high-pressure atmosphere.
McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers had thirteen seasons together in Green Bay, and the coach says the quarterback knows how to keep everybody involved in the offense.
The Steelers are taking a look at free agent safety Jordan Whitehead, the former Pitt and Central Valley High School star who’s played seven seasons in the NFL, the first four with Tampa Bay, then two with the Jets before returning to the Bucs in 2024. He missed last season due to injuries suffered in a car crash in January of ’25. After neck surgery, Whitehead has finally been cleared to resume his playing career.
The Steelers hosted Whitehead yesterday. He’s also worked out for at least two other teams, the Colts and Texans.
There’s a schedule change for today’s practice. The team will hold some early-morning meetings, then McCarthy will meet the media at 10:10 AM, with practice from 10:30 to 12:15.
