The Steelers put on the pads today for the first time in training camp, and coach Mike McCarthy can’t wait. He says that even with his ban on tackling, it’s going to be plenty physical at St. Vincent.
McCarthy says the physicality will be noticeable between the tackles and on the outside as well.
Practice begins today at 11:20. The rest of this week’s schedule has 11 AM practices open to the public on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday’s session will be closed to the public. Saturday is the night practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium, starting at 6 PM.
Security will be keeping a watchful eye on the crowd today after two men began fighting on Saturday while jockeying for position to get Pat Freiermuth’s autograph. The two guys, both middle-aged, caused the crowd to begin jostling and Freiermuth reached over the barrier and lifted a little boy to safety.
The Steelers yesterday signed veteran safety Rayshawn Jenkins and released safety Darnell Savage. Jenkins has 11 interceptions in his nine-year career, including one last season in seventeen games with the Browns. He’s also played for the Chargers, Jaguars, and Seahawks.
