Mario Lemieux no longer owns a portion of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins legend and business partner Ron Burkle have sold their minority stake in the Pens, according to numerous sources. The purchaser or price have not been disclosed.
The Hoffmann Group, which closed the deal to buy the Penguins from the Fenway Sports Group for about $1.75 billion in June, has said it wants Lemieux to be with the Pens in whatever way he chooses, but the decision to sell means it will no longer be as an owner.
The Penguins open training camp in less than three weeks. They’ve not announced a date. The first preseason game is at home against Buffalo on September 21st. The Pens will also put a team on the ice for the 2026 Prospects Challenge in Detroit, which begins on September 11th.
