The Indiana County Office of Planning and Development will hold its regular meeting this Wednesday, and the agenda reveals new details on the long-anticipated coming of Amazon to the Homer City Generating Energy Campus.
According to the documents, Amazon proposes to acquire about 2,200 acres in Center and Blacklick townships across six properties (the Bruner, Helen, Green, West, Harvey/Gaston, and Rura sites), and construct 39 data centers with ancillary and related operational facilities. The company anticipates 1,500 to 2,000 permanent jobs averaging between $80,000 and $100,000 in salary.
The data centers will be 70-foot long, two-story buildings and will be constructed over a ten-year period, starting with the Rura property.
Amazon promises an “appropriate Community Benefits Agreement” to mitigate community impacts and ensure tangible benefits and will not seek any tax incentives from local or county stakeholders. It will also “pay all costs associated with any new electrical infrastructure needed for the data center campus,” and it says its operations “will support cloud computing services, and there is “existing client demand supporting construction of the full campus.”
Wednesday’s meeting will be held in Courtroom 1 at the Indiana County Courthouse at 5 PM, with overflow into other courtrooms as needed for additional attendees.
