Newcomer Nick Robertson gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead last night, but Detroit stormed back for a 7-4 win over the Pens at PPG Paints Arena. Forward Rickard Rakell, defenseman Kaeden Korczak, and forward Rutger McGroarty scored the other Penguins goals. Arturs Silovs gave up all seven Red Wings goals, stopping sixteen of twenty-three shots.
The game got a little rough, with the Red Wings chipping at Sidney Crosby and Rickard Rakell. Defensemen Ilya Solovyov, Declan Carlile, and Kaeden Korczak all rushed to the scene to protect their teammates. Coach Dan Muse liked the way the three blue-liners stepped up.
Muse says Arturs Silovs doesn’t have anything to worry about after giving up seven goals. Silovs was in net for 39 games for the Pens last season.
The Ruck twins, Liam and Markus, played on the fourth line with Rutger McGroarty last night. Liam ended the night with two assists and Markus had one.
Muse said it was good for them to get some game time in the NHL before they return to juniors, where they will play this season.
Forwards Ben Kindel, Justin Brazeau, and Ville Koivunen have all been termed “day-to-day” with undisclosed injuries. Kindel and Brazeau were hurt Monday night against Buffalo. Koivunen didn’t play in that game but was scheduled to play last night, but the injury kept him off the ice.
The Pens play their third preseason game in Columbus tomorrow night.

Former Penguins player and executive Bill Guerin’s contract has been extended by the Minnesota Wild. Guerin has been the Wild’s GM since 2019 and was named General Manager of the Year after last season. He was also GM of the gold medal-winning Team USA in the Olympics. The Wild only say it’s a “multi-year” extension.
