Football Hall of Famer Mike Ditka has passed away at the age of 86.
His family announced the news Friday. Ditka coached the Chicago Bears when they won Super Bowl 20. As a player, he was drafted fifth overall by the Bears in the 1961 NFL Draft. He also played for Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys and went on to become the first tight end to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In a statement, his family said, “While the world knew Mike as a Hall of Fame football, legendary coach, and leader of the Chicago Bears’ Super Bowl 20 championship team, we knew him as the heart of our family.”
