The Pitt Panthers relied on dependable true freshman running back Damon Ferguson Jr., who ran for 185 yards and a touchdown in a 34-11 ACC win last night. The win clinched bowl eligibility for Pitt (6-3, 3-3 in the ACC).
Holden Gernier threw for 180 yards and a touchdown for Pitt, and would have had at least one more score except for tight end Carson Kent’s fumble out of the end zone while reaching for the touchdown in the second quarter, and several drops of Gernier passes by other receivers. In addition to those missed opportunities, Ferguson had a touchdown negated by a holding penalty. Gernier’s touchdown pass was a 30-yard drifter to Blue Hicks early in the fourth quarter to extend Pitt’s lead to 24 points.
Pitt is off this week and returns to action on Friday, November 13th at 7 PM against Florida State at Acrisure Stadium.
