Bertha ( Zofchen) Shimko, age 95, of Kent, died August 27, 2019 at the Communities at
Indian Haven.
She was born in 1923 in Chambersville to John A. and Helen Mnich Zofchen.
Bertha was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Kent where she was an active member.
She was a graduate of Indiana High School in 1942.
Bertha was employed at the Indiana County Courthouse in Voter Registration office for 21 years. After retirement she was employed at PennDOT for 18 years and retired in 1989.
She is survived by three nieces, Stephanie “Janet” Gilmore, Brentwood, NY; Mary Jean Novak and husband Joseph, Lucernemines; Rita Turk and husband Richard A., Lucernemines; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph “Dutch” Shimko in 1994, and infant brother George, sisters Mary Kanaba, Helen Orlaskey, nephew Michael G. Kanaba and niece Joyce Orlaskey Burns.
In keeping with Bertha’s wishes there will be no public visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 A.M. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Kent, with the Rev. Fr. Matthew Morelli the celebrant. Interment will be made in the St. Bernard Cemetery.
