Patrick Eugene McGuire, 74, of Shelocta, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at his home after an extended illness resulting from a stroke experienced in 2016.
Born on August 23, 1949 in Altoona, he was the son of the late Gerald and Margie McGuire. He graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1967 then served in the US Navy/US Navy Reserves from 1967 to 1972.
Pat was a highly skilled and respected machinist at Homer City Generating Station where his career spanned 38 years. In addition to his work ethic, he was known for his likeability, adventurous spirit, and willingness to bend what he would consider an unnecessary rule when needed. He was an active member of the Shelocta Community Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon for many years. He enjoyed valued family time, but especially liked beach trips and camping at Prince Gallitzin State Park.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Karen; children, Julie Smith, Jana Butina (Barry), Scott Jennings (Amy); 6 grandchildren, Morgan Opel (Tyler), Quint McManus, Madison Smith, Jaylin McManus, Casey Jennings, Connor Jennings, and great grandson, Cooper Plowcha; siblings, Dennis McGuire, Sister Elizabeth Ann McGuire, O.S.F, Michael McGuire (Rebecca), Marie McGuire; sisters-in law, Shirley Ray (Jerry), Kathy Brewer, Tammy Davis; niece, Katie Rescenete (Michael); nephews, Michael David McGuire (Laura), Christopher McGuire, and Adam Leczner . He will also be missed by his loyal companions, Tucker and Bella.
In addition to his parents, Pat was predeceased by his daughter Joni McGuire, sisters Regina and Joyce McGuire, special brother Patrick Allen, in-laws Richard and Mary Jane Davis and brother-in-law Ronald Brewer.
The family would like to thank Concordia-IRMC VNA Home Health Care and Hospice staff members who joined “Team McGuire” along with special friend and caregiver, Joe Kucinski to provide Pat with compassionate and valuable support throughout his journey.
As per Pat’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. However, his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
