George Shelton Evans, 97, of Strongsville, Ohio, formerly of Brush Valley, passed away on Saturday May 25, 2024.
He was born July 23, 1926 to George S. Evans Sr. and Mary (Appleton) Evans in Brush Valley.
George was a dairy farmer until 1959 when he sold his dairy herd. George then became a cattle dealer with local farmers and livestock auctions. He enjoyed hiking, competitive card player, and elk hunting in Wyoming and Montana. George was the youngest of 11 siblings and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by three children, Karen Smith (Bob), Strongsville, OH, Keith Evans (Carol), Jeannette, Ken Evans (Jan), Brush Valley, 12 grandchildren, Jeff, David and Kevin Smith, Heather Dyer, Bob Evans, Kimee Schmader, Chad Burns, Heather Ciarelli, Shaleen Albin, Craig Evans, Kendra McNutt, Wade Evans, 26 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gertrude “Pat” (Patterson) Evans who passed away on July 14, 2014, five brothers, John, Sherman, James, Wilford, Ben Evans, five sisters, Helen Wolfe, Marjorie Fox, Esther Fox, Mathilda Allison, Gladys Evans.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 3:00 PM at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, 898 Old Hwy., 119 N., Indiana, PA 15701, with Tom McNutt officiating.
Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana, PA
