Today is Juneteenth, a holiday that recognizes the end of slavery in the United States. It was on this day in 1865 that General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the civil war.
It is a holiday recognized at the federal and state levels. That means that federal and state offices are closed. PA liquor stores will be open today their normal hours, but driver’s license offices will be closed.
There will be no regular mail delivery and post offices will be closed.
County row offices and courts will be open today for normal business hours.
