At a special meeting Thursday night, the River Valley School Board approved a proposal for some temporary and permanent work to make the new football stadium ready to go for the start of the season.
The agreement with Force Turf Solutions of Indiana will include the installation of temporary chain link fencing, all the electrical work, and paving at the stadium at a cost not to exceed $922,146.30. Board president Rick Harper said that he doesn’t expect the work to cost that much.
The vote was 5-4 with Nathan Baird, Beverly Carnese, Jessica Clawson and Melanie Pantalone voting against the agreement. Baird said he didn’t have a problem with the company, but he felt money was being wasted on temporary fixes.
The board also approved backup plans in case the stadium was not ready by the first game of the season. If the new stadium is available for practices but not games, practice would be held at the new stadium and the games would be at Ernie Widmar Field. If the new stadium is not available for games or practice, last year’s plan of using Saltsburg’s field for games and Ernie Widmar field for practice would go into effect.
