IUP has named an interim director for its marching band ahead of the start of its performance season.
The university announced that 2003 IUP Music Education grad Cassidy Nalepa has been selected as the director, stepping in after Dr. Zach Cheever announced his resignation to take a post with his alma mater, Austin Peay University. Nalepa will also serve as the Interim Associate Director of Bands in the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance. She comes to IUP from Ball State University where she served as a bands graduate assistant as she completed her doctoral studies in conducting and music education.
She has been working with the band through their recent camp, which will come to an end with their “final zucchini” today and a Friends and Family performance on Saturday at George P. Miller Stadium at 7:00 PM. The Friends and Family show is open to the public.
At both the “final zucchini” and on Saturday, members of “The Legend Legacy Alumni” will collect donations of snacks, bottled water and sports drinks to help the band members through the season. Drop off points will be the R&P Lot near the IUP Tennis Courts today at 5:00 PM and George P Miller Stadium at 6:00 PM Saturday.
